I've always enjoyed sci-fi movies, especially stories about aliens and UFOs. Inspired by a parallax storytelling project I created for a previous portfolio, I decided to expand the idea into a small interactive game. In this pixel-art adventure, you play as an alien whose mission is to abduct cows from a rural farm. It was a fun opportunity to combine storytelling, design, and game development into a single creative project.

The Challenge

The original concept started as a visual story, but I felt something was missing: interaction. I wanted to transform the idea into an experience where users could actively participate rather than simply scroll through a narrative. To bring the project to life, I designed the game from scratch, including the pixel-art characters, animations, and gameplay elements. I chose a retro pixel-art style to capture the charm of classic arcade games while creating a lighthearted take on the classic “aliens abducting cows” trope. One of the most rewarding parts of the project was thinking through character behaviour, animations, and how players would interact with the game world.

Process notes:
The project was developed using AI-assisted coding tools to support parts of the implementation process. This allowed me to focus more on gameplay design, visual direction, pixel art, and overall creative execution.
